August 17, 1954 ~ August 25, 2023 (age 69)
At home, with family by her side, on August 25, 2023, Laureen O’Larey peacefully passed on to heaven.
Laureen was born in Portland, Oregon, on August 17, 1954, to Mildred and Jacob Hamburg of Lake Oswego. She graduated from Lake Oswego High in 1972, where she was Student Body Vice President her senior year. She went on to attend Oregon State University and graduated with a degree in Education in 1976. Following graduation, she married Lem Kangur; and they resided in Corvallis. They later divorced, and she moved to Gladstone where she taught high school geography and coached girls swimming, soccer, and softball. Eventually, she found a much loved career in the brokerage firm of Smith Barney where she met the love of her life, Philip O’Larey. They married on February 24, 1990. Family was especially important to Laureen, and she hosted many large gatherings with family and friends. After retiring early together, they traveled the world and spent winters in Hawaii. She was an avid golfer and proudly made 2 holes in one. For the past three years, after Phil’s death, she continued to winter at her Ma’ili Cove home where she had a loving Hawaiian ohana.
She will be profoundly missed by many friends and her large family including sisters Sherilyn Kilpatrick and her husband Robert, Yvonne Johnson and her husband Robert; two nephews, two nieces, their children as well as many cousins, and an Aunt Suzie in Grand Island, NE. She will also be missed by her O’Larey family, son Phil and wife Jean, son Tim and wife Mary Ellen, six grandchildren, five great grands, and her beloved cat, Pippa.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 31st, 2 PM, at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church, 4040 Sunset Drive, Lake Oswego, followed by a celebration at Aji Tram Restaurant, 4477 Lakeview Blvd. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALK POSITIVE.
