Leila Elliott Obituary

Leila Sher Elliott, daughter of Dorothy and Saul Sher passed away July 8, 2018 after a long battle with ALS. She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; her three children, Jessica, Brett and Match; three stepchildren Jackson, Travis and Tyler; and 12 grandchildren.

Born June 5, 1951 in East Rutherford, N.J., she grew up in Los Angeles, California with her siblings Linda, Don and Ginny where she attended Pacific Palisades High School before obtaining an undergraduate degree in English from UCLA. After UCLA she received her JD from Lewis & Clark Law School, and then went on to complete her Masters in Taxation from NYU Law. She briefly taught Tax Law at Lewis & Clark Law School before leaving the workforce to focus on her growing family. Leila returned to academia 25 years later to earn an RN Degree from Linfield College.
She taught her children by example and thus, was deeply committed to community service with a primary focus on public education. Leila served on numerous committees and with several volunteer programs in the Lake Oswego community. Her most notable positions were as President of the PTO, Chair of the Lake Oswego School Board and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lake Oswego School Foundation. In addition, she was a graduate of the Leadership Lake Oswego program.

Leila was an avid world traveler who stopped at nothing to provide the most impactful memories for her family and friends. She loved her chocolate filled bridge games and lively book groups. Upon discovery of an open dance floor or a perfect body surfing wave she was always the first one to jump right in. Her energy for life knew no bounds and she touched all those she shared her time with. Her passion and zeal were infectious, as was her laugh, which was loud, strong and true.

In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage donations for research to the ALS Association or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m., July 29, 2018, at the Lake Oswego High School Auditorium.
