September 29, 1924 ~ January 12, 2015 (age 90)
Lillian was born in Portland, Oregon on September 29, 1924. She was the second child of Joseph and Mary Pauletich who immigrated to the United States in the early part of the century. Lillian’s early years in Portland were joyful. She often recounted her years and adventures at Kennedy grade school and Jefferson high school. 4-H was among her favorite activities. It was in Portland that she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Walker.
Dick and Lillian were married on June 7, 1947. In June of 1951 they exchanged Portland’s green foliage for the deserts of the Columbia Basin. Settling in Richland, Lillian was at first reluctant. There were no tumbleweeds in Portland. However, Dick and Lillian were quick to make new friendships and soon found the Tri Cities an ideal place to raise their three young boys, Craig, Dan and Mike. Summers on the river, golfing at Sham Na Pum, youth baseball, and life long friends, were memories etched in her heart long after she and Dick left the Tri Cities in 1972.
The next 16 years found Dick and Lillian in Westlake Village, California, followed by an amazing 6 years in Saudi Arabia, a base from which they travelled and saw the world. In 1988 they returned to the states and settled in Green Valley, Arizona, where they lived, laughed and loved retirement.
After Dick passed in 2004, Lillian returned to Richland. Her final years were spent in the care of some very special and loving ladies at Tranquility Haven, in Kennewick, Washington. A special thanks goes out to Elizabeth and Malia whose kindness will never be forgotten.
Lillian is survived by her three sons, Craig Walker (Sharon) of Richland, Mike Walker of Richland, Dan Walker (Cathi) of Kona, Hawaii, daughter-in-law, Debbie Walker, four grandchildren, Jessica Walker Schuler, Joe Walker, Greg Walker and Bridget Walker, and great grandson, Abel Walker.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of Lillian Walker
