Former Gresham resident, Lucille Marjorie Van Beek, 103, died in Portland on April 14, 2023.
She was born and raised in Portland, the daughter of Joseph and Clara Black, and was graduated from Jefferson High School. In 1941, she married Donald Van Beek and worked as a bookkeeper in a paper company. She left that job to marry and later to raise five energetic children.
In 1953, the Van Beeks relocated to the historic Wittier house on S.E. Roberts where they resided until 1967 when, with the nest empty, they moved back to Portland. She worked for several companies including Meier & Frank and for the post office.
She was an enthusiastic member of several singing groups including the Trioleers where she was remembered for her beautiful voice and unfailing humor.
Her loving family included sons, Steve, Ted, and Mark, and a daughter, Janice as well as eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild
She was pre-deceased by her husband and two sons.
