March 7, 1913 ~ October 6, 2015 (age 102)
She is survived by her children, Bruce Boone, Tory Finnerty, Maria Witte and Denny (Mari) Boone; 11 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Madeleine was born March 7, 1913, in Vallejo, Calif. After convent schooling in Belmont, California, she enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley specializing in nursing. At a fraternity event, she met her future husband, Bill Boone. After the war, Bill went into finance, heading up the Dean Witter office in Portland, later absorbed by Morgan Stanley.
Mom set up the St. Thomas More mothers’ club, began the adoration program, participated in Meals on Wheels, helped create the Archbishop’s Tea and other activities. Family life was very Catholic; daily mass and the rosary. Spirituality had mom’s stamp on it. Mom also led on the cultural front as well. She tried hard to inculcate in us principles of spirituality, art appreciation and intellectual life. One of her great strengths was in her caring for her aged mother, our grandmother. Both died at the age of 102. Her Catholicism helped give her patience and strength. Rare was the birthday of any child or grandchild that wasn’t accompanied by a note and a check. We mourn her passing and think of her often. She had a very rich life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
