Margaret Mary Tobin went to the Lord peacefully Monday, May 11, 2020, 10 days after celebrating her 99th birthday.
Born in Park Place, Oregon, to Charles and Elizabeth (Corcoran) Tobin.
Margaret graduated from St. Johns Academy in Milwaukie, Oregon, in 1939, then Marylhurst University, and has a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University in Chicago. As a reading specialist, she taught in Public Portland schools for over 40 years as well as teaching in Baumholder, Germany and Paris, France. She was an active volunteer, including for the Oregon Historical Society and St. Michael’s food pantry. Margaret was a passionate world traveler who covered the globe, even taking a two week trip to England at age 90.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James; and infant sister, Catherine; step-mother, Agusta Harold Baum Tobin; and stepsisters, Clara, Rose, Margaret and Augusta Baum.
She is survived and greatly missed by her great-nephew, Ron (Linda) Kieling; great-great-nephew, Erik Kieling; great-great-niece; Megan (Jesse) Vassar; and great-great-great niece, Ryan Vassar. Others include sons of Linda (Ron), Matt, Blake and Clint Wager.
A private Mass of Catholic Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michaels, Oregon Historical Society, Portland Symphony or Blanchet House.
