Margaret Patricia Vincent
November 12, 1927 – March 3, 2022
Margaret Patricia Vincent died March 3 in Wilsonville, following a short illness. She was 94.
Patty, to those who knew and loved her, was a longtime teacher, a loving wife, and a patient mother of four boys.
She was born to parents Fred and Frances at Portland’s original St. Vincent Hospital. Patty grew up in Eastmoreland, attending Duniway Elementary School, Holy Child Academy, and graduating from Lincoln High School. She studied at Marylhurst College and Seattle University to be a medical lab technician, earning her degree from Marylhurst.
After four years working for The Portland Clinic, Patty returned to Portland State College to earn a degree in education. She taught third grade at Portland’s Grout Elementary School and later preschool in the Montessori system. A devout Catholic, Patty taught religious education at Lake Oswego’s Our Lady of the Lake Parish for decades.
In 1959, Patty married Jim Vincent of Lake Oswego, a photographer for The Oregonian. Their 58-year marriage was filled with joy, love, family camping adventures, and travel. She visited all 50 states and several foreign countries.
Patty is survived by sons James (Raema), David (Robin), Richard (Rebecca), and John (Cheryl); three grandchildren: Grace, Mary Frances, and Nancy; sister Kathleen Adams; and more than a dozen nieces and nephews. She was the godmother to many. Patty was preceded in death by her husband Jim Vincent and sister Leslie Fullmer.
Her funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 21, at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, 790 A. Ave., Lake Oswego. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will precede the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland.
The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the St. Vincent de Paul Portland Council or the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation. Arrangements are being handled by Riverview Abbey.
