Biography

Marty was born in Portland on May 23, 1938 to William and Evelyn Blitz. She attended Ainsworth Grade School, Lincoln High School and Portland State College.

On August 8, 1959, Marty married Richard “Dick” Matcovich at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church. Together they raised three children, Lynn, John and Eric.

Marty worked to right injustice through her efforts on behalf of Diversity as Gift, Our House and HIV Day Center.

She was devoted to her family and always had plenty of food for any guest. She also hand knit sweaters, hats and hundreds of pairs of socks for family, friends, and the needy.

Marty is survived by her loving husband Dick, her brothers Eric (Marilyn) Blitz of Vashon Island, and John (Lucille) Blitz of Santa Cruz, and by her children Lynn (Matt) Nichols of Seattle, John (Jennifer) Matcovich of Portland, and Eric (Donna) Matcovich of San Francisco, as well as by 12 grandchildren.
