Mary Mills died on January 14, 2017, at the age of 97. She was born October 18, 1919, to Louise Sauber and Albert Valentine in Ukiah, California, and raised in Portland, Oregon. She attended Lincoln High School, where her love for baseball was kindled. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Marylhurst and took graduate courses in math at Reed. Mary taught high school math at Grant High School, Jesuit, and St. Mary’s Academy during her long career.
Mary is preceded in death by Raymond Mills, her husband of 66 years. She is survived by her sister, Terry Fortino, her daughter, M. “Kathy” Johnson, her son, Paul Mills, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Church, Beaverton, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sauber and Mills Scholarship, Oregon Community Foundation, Suite 100, 1221 S.W. Yamhill Street, Portland, OR, 97205.
