July 26, 1926 ~ November 15, 2016 (age 90)
John hailed from Kohilou, on the Greek island of Andros. The same village as Minas parents. It was love at first sight. In addition to raising two daughters in NE Portland, John and Mina owned and operated several restaurants. Mina also had a 30-year career in the buying department at Nordstrom. Her time there shaped Minas love for fashion. She always had a snappy outfit and great shoes to match.
Like many Greek immigrants of her era, Minas closest friendships were forged through her involvement with Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Mina volunteered for the Portland Greek Festival for over 60 years. Mina could always be found in her kitchen and loved hosting holiday meals. She will forever be known for baking her famous Koulourakia. No matter how far her family traveled from Portland, Mina always found a way to send those delicious cookies. Another pastime was traveling, including Labor Day in Seaside, spring break in Palm Springs and the frequent getaway to Las Vegas.
Mina will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Yia Yia), sister, aunt (thea) and friend to many.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Tiniakos and Katherine Tiniakos Ossey (Don); grandchildren, Nicole and Stephen Ossey; brother, Nick Kondos (Diane); sister-in-law, Sandy Kondos; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John who left us too early in 1990; sisters, Orsa Falangus and Irene Rulli; and brother, Mike Kondos.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alheimers Association or the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund.
And now as we pause to remember, let us fondly recall, how dearly each of us loved her, and oh how she loved us all. May her memory be eternal.
You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of Mina Tiniakos
