Nicholas Galash Obituary

Nicholas L. Galash died peacefully in his home with his family on July 4, 2013 following a three year heroic battle with lymphoma.

Nick was born on February 2, 1932 in Portland as the youngest of five children to Nicholas and Mary, Polish immigrants operating a dairy in NE Portland. Mr. Galash retired an officer in the Coast Guard after twenty-seven years of service followed by a second career building and repairing offshore drilling vessels around the world.

Over the last thirty-five years he lived on a small farm near Gresham and was passionate about his salmon fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Mary, Theresa, Nicholas Jr., Stephen; 12 grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Schraedner.

At 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, there will be a rosary held at St. Stanislaus followed by a mass and reception. Funeral directed by Riverview Abbey.

The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to Portland VA Hospital, Visiting Angels and Providence Hospice for their loving care.
