July 10, 1953 ~ September 13, 2023 (age 70)
Nick Rulli was born July 10, 1953 in Portland, Ore. He was the youngest of three sons born to Irene Kondos Rulli and Eldo Rulli. He graduated from Grant High School in 1971 and the University of Oregon in 1975.
Nick began his 46 year real estate career with JL Pounder in Portland, then Professionals 100. He became principal broker for the Hasson Company, the Meadows Group and most recently;
John L. Scott. Nick mentored a multitude of agents in his life, and was well respected and loved within the real estate community. He came from an era when a handshake represented your word and continued that philosophy his entire career. He lived by his strong values and sense of integrity.
In a whirlwind romance, Nick met and married Christine Vlachos from Jersey City, N.J., in 1982. They had three loving children; Alexandra (Steven Carpenter), Arianna, (Travis Bishop)
and Nicholas (Lindsay Verboort). They resided in Lake Oswego for their entire 41 years together where they enjoyed raising their family. Nick was a devoted husband, father and “papou.”
More than anything, he enjoyed participating as a coach, mentor and spectator in his childrens’ lives. They gave him so much pleasure and love, and his pride in them has always been without bounds.
Nick was raised by first generation American parents and immigrant grandparents from Andros, Greece and Italy. He had an extensive and close-knit family which included his brothers; Michael (Kathy) and James (Jeanie). He was baptized and raised in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church where he is now receiving his final sacrament as he completed his life’s circle. The church was his spiritual home where he attended Sunday School, Greek School, served in the altar, volunteered at the annual Greek Festival and served on the Parish Council. Nick loved his faith, family and friends most; and of course good wine and a great meal.
Beyond taking care of business and nurturing his family, Nick lived his very active 70 years to the fullest. He was passionate about working out, attending sports events (especially his Ducks),
and his Greek heritage. He leaves behind many close friends and a multitude of memories that were created with friends and family and traveling to Mexico and Greece.
Nick fought like a warrior against pancreatic cancer for almost four years so he could spend more time with his children and precious grandchildren; Theo, Penelope and Kellen. They were
such a light in his life and he just beamed with joy when he saw them; even during the worst of his illness.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife, children, brothers, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and dear friends who have all supported and loved him throughout his journey. He was so honored to have baptized and dearly loved his many Godchildren; Anthony Kondos, Alexander Rulli, Don Ossey, John-Anthony Prignano, Nicole Ossey Freeman, Elena Sorich
Aldrin, Philip Gianopoulos, and Marissa Neitling.
He had a strong faith and knew without any doubt that we would all be reunited in God’s time. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral General Fund, Hellenic American Cultural Center & Museum (sent to Holy Trinity), or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan).
Trisagion Prayer Service at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023. Funeral at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, both at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3131 N.E. Glisan St., Portland.
