Ray graduated from Medford Senior High School in 1948 and later attended South Oregon College (now University), Portland State College (now University) and graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School (now OHSU) in 1961. Ray served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952 with an honorable discharge. Ray married Janice Walker on May 2, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.
Ray was a life member of the American Dental Association, life member and later President (1975) of Multomah Dental Society, member of the Academy of General Dentistry (since 1963) and Fellowship (1970) and President of the Oregon Society of Dentistry for Children (OSDC) in 1982. Ray also belonged to the South Riverside Kiwanis Club since 1963, acting as President in 1970, 1986 and 1995 and Lt. Governor of the Pacific Northwest District from 1973 to 1974. He was also a part of the South Riverside Foundation Board, which supports Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Ray volunteered for the Portland Marathon for over 25 years, handling emergency radio calls. Ray had a Ham Radio License (KA7MGC) since about 1976. Ray also traveled to Hawaii and Europe with the OSDC.
Graveside services will be held January 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oregon Humane Society or to the South Riverside Kiwanis Foundation, P.O. Box 538, Boring, OR 97009.
