March 17, 1926 ~ January 14, 2017 (age 90)
Born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1926 he was raised by his parents, Ante and Eva Polich with older brother Bob and younger sister Theresa in N.W. Portland’s Slabtown. Patrick attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from Benson High School. He served our nation in the Navy during WWII in the Aleutian Islands before receiving a History Degree from the University of Portland in 1949, and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Oregon.
Patrick married Patricia Wray November 8, 1952 at St. Patrick Church and soon welcomed son, Joseph and daughter, Joanne. He spent his career teaching and counseling high school students, spending 28 years at Sunset High School.
In retirement, Pat and Patricia enjoyed their grandchildren, many trips to Hawaii, Palm Desert, Cruises and Las Vegas. He loved the warm weather and a casino close by. A deep root in the Croatian community brought many family and close friends together throughout the years.
Patrick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia; his son, Joseph Polich (Kay Lynn); daughter, Joanne Corrigan (Kelly); grandchildren, Katie Berglund (Erik), Molly Corrigan (Fiancée Matthew Biller) and Michael Corrigan; great-granddaughter, Gwen Berglund; and his brother, Robert Polich from Richmond, Va.
