Peter ‘Pano’ Vlahos, 76, passed away December 01, 2012 He was born January 20, 1936 in Portland to Tom and Marina Vlahos and was married to his wife, Jan, for 48 years.
His parents emigrated from Greece, and Pano was born in Portland where he was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He served as Director of Cultural Events and an Associate Dean of Students for 30 years at Lewis and Clark College, where he was known and loved by generations of students, faculty and staff.
Pano had a full heart and spirit with a passion for bringing people together. He loved life, laughter, community and family, directing choirs, teaching Greek folk dancing and volunteering for political and social causes with a special passion for the arts. He served on the boards of RACC, ORS, Alzheimer’s Association and others.
Pano is survived by his wife, Jan; son, Tom, his wife, Amy; daughter, Marnie; her husband, Erik; sister, Katherine; her husband, Jack; nephew, Tommy; and four grandsons, Matthew, Alex, Jack and Nicholas.
A service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Fr. Elias Stephanopoulos Memorial Fund, Lewis & Clark College or Hellenic American Cultural Center & Museum.
