R. Bowers Obituary

Robert Bruce Bowers, 84, died March 31, 2012, at home in Portland from cancer. Bruce was born August 08, 1927 in Rutledge, Minn., son of Frank and Marguerite Hollis Bowers.

Bruce finished high school then served in the military, first in the Merchant Marine and later in the Army. He was assigned to Army Intelligence.

Bruce moved to Portland in 1958. He worked for a dental supply company. Later, he took a job with the OHSU Dental School Bookstore rising to the position of manager. Bruce worked at OHSU until he retired.

For the past 16 years he has been a volunteer at the Portland Art Museum. Service to the Art Museum has become one of the most important aspects of Bruce’s life and has earned him great respect and many friends.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and his life companion, Roger Brown. He is survived by special friends, Alan Blodgett, Lee Buhler and Len Porter of Portland.
