Raymond Rowe Obituary

Raymond Rowe passed away, August 31, 2012, at age 89 from cancer.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on June 17, 1923, he served in the navy during World War II and was joyfully married to Norma Kugel, his high school sweetheart, for 69 years.

Holding a bachelor degree in occupational therapy and a master’s degree in special education, Ray and family relocated to Salem in 1961 and was the principal for the School for the Blind until accepting a position on Governor Mark Hatfield’s Council on Children and Youth. Recognized by both Governors McCall and Hatfield for his volunteer work, Ray last served on the Washington County Council of Aging and Veteran Services.

He loved to travel and read, and was active in the Cascade Steroptican Club. From his and Norma’s travels he made his own 3D slides.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Norma Rowe; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jeff Holland; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
