July 15, 1921 ~ January 3, 2012 (age 90)
Regina Marie John was born July 15, 1921 in Leader, Saskatchewan Canada. Her parents, Rudolph and Maria Ebner, were immigrants from Germany. She had one older and beloved brother, Rudy. When she was a small child the family left Canada and moved to Mt. Angel, OR where she was raised. In 1940 she graduated from Mt. Angel Academy and the family later moved to Portland, Oregon.
In 1942 Regina went to work for Jantzen Knitting Mills and was quickly promoted to supervisor. Regina was an accomplished pianist and a sharp pinochle player. She was an excellent cook and had a great love for animals, owning many pets over the years. She also took pleasure in square dancing and bowling, and adored children.
She continued to work for Jantzen until she married Lester M. John on May 15, 1968. Regina and Lester were devout Catholics and were married by Father Heibel at the Ascension Church. Regina was so kind and completely devoted to her family and her husband, Lester. She was always willing to help without question, and her compassion was clear through her eyes and her smile.
Regina enjoyed traveling Europe extensively with her husband. For many years they alternately lived in Phoenix, Arizona and Portland, Oregon. Both Lester and Regina treasured the coast and in their later years together spent many long weekends at their second home in Gearhart, Oregon. They loved each other deeply.
Regina was greatly committed to charitable work and took great joy in giving to others. She served as a Director on the Board of the B.P., Lester and Regina John Foundation. After Lester’s death, Jeannie carried out his charitable legacy and was a generous benefactor, particularly for the disadvantaged and for Catholic churches and education. She moved to Gearhart, Oregon permanently and spent her final years under the compassionate and loving care of the Providence Seaside Extended Care Unit.
Arrangements are in the care of Riverview Abbey in Portland, OR.
