December 23, 1933 ~ September 14, 2018 (age 84)
Richard “Dick” Clayton Wise was born to Thelma (Swisher) and Arthur Wise on December 23, 1933 in Portland, Oregon and passed from life on Friday, September 14, 2018. With the exception of a few years in the San Francisco Bay Area he lived his entire life in the Portland area. He attended Skyline Elementary school and graduated from Beaverton High School where he played every sport with a ball in it. He also attended and played football for Portland State University.
During the Korean War he enlisted in the Army and eventually became a paratrooper much to his mother’s dismay. Fortunately the conflict ended and he was never deployed to Korea.
His true love and career was with the International Longshoremen and Warehouseman’s Union from the waterfront to the International level where he served as West Coast Committeeman. He was involved with many high negotiations at a time that was marked by labor unrest. He also traveled overseas to help other countries organize their maritime industries. He served as a Port of Portland commissioner and after retirement as an Arbitrator for the Portland port area.
He is survived by his last three high school Amigos, two Eds and a Jimmy.
His daughter Trudie and son in law Dean Patterson, daughter Carrie and son in law Mark Simonds, daughter Abbie Simmons and son Richard Barton Wise. Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 2:00 PM, at Riverview Abbey Chapel, 0319 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, OR 97219
