Robert O’Reilly, Jr. Obituary

Robert Joseph O’Reilly, Jr. was born on Jul 31st, 1934 in San Francisco, CA to Margaret
Cullen O’Reilly and Robert Joseph O’Reilly, Sr. Bob entered eternal life on March
24th, 2020. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School, University of San Francisco,
and Lincoln Law School. Bob has three younger brothers, Kevin (Barbara), James
(Sue), and Tom O’Reilly. Bob met Mary Esther McCarthy when they were co-chairs of
the Social Committee for the Catholic Alumni Club. They were married on January
2nd, 1965. Bob and Mary welcomed three daughters, Eileen (Robert Hoisington),
Kathleen (William McInerney) and Annemarie (Kimberly Johnson), and eventually 5
grandchildren Rose and Kevin O’Reilly-Hoisington, Colin and Liam McInerney, and
Owen O’Reilly.

Bob was Staff Counsel at Industrial Indemnity Insurance Co., specializing in Workman’s
Compensation Defense from 1966 to 1997. In 1971 Bob opened a branch office of Industrial
Indemnity Staff Counsel in Sacramento and became managing Attorney from 1971 to 1997.

Bob and Mary were members of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sacramento, CA for 45
years. Bob was a board member of St. Ignatius Elementary School as well as Loretto
High School. He had daughters at Loretto for 8 years, and for those years he and his
daughters won the dance contest at the Father-Daughter dance. Bob will be dearly
missed and long-remembered for his love of singing, his robust dancing, and his hearty
laugh! He had a deep and abiding love of the open road and seeing the great outdoors.
As a young man he and two friends rode their scooters from San Francisco to
Victoria, BC, and later, Bob enjoyed camping and road-tripping great distances with
his wife and daughters. Bob was also legendary for his ingenuity and creative inventions
around the house.

Bob and Mary moved to Mary’s Woods, CCRC in Lake Oswego, OR in 2016. For the past
several years, Bob bravely battled Alzheimer’s. His daughters want to acknowledge
their Mom, Mary, for her fierce advocacy, steadfast love, and compassionate care of
Bob during his final years.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held in the future, when possible. Donations may
be made to the Residents’ Fund at Mary’s Woods or Bristol Hospice
