August 5, 1928 ~ June 5, 2019 (age 90)
With family by his side, Rudy, age 90, passed peacefully at his home in Milwaukie, June 5, 2019.
Rudy Lisac was born August 5, 1928 to Nick and Pauline Lisac in Portland. Rudy was the fourth of 14 children and when his father became ill, Rudy ran the family grocery store at age 14 to support the family. At age 21 he went to seminary in Mission City, BC to study to be a Catholic priest. After seven years Rudy chose to leave the seminary and returned home. He went back to work in the family business. Around the same time, he met his lovely bride Suzanne VanDyke and they married in 1958. As the community grew with larger stores nearby, the family grocery business faded. Out of necessity, Rudy and Sue started what is now Lisac’s Fireplaces and Stoves and out of the same location became one of the largest retailers in the Pacific N.W., recognized nationally by their suppliers.
Rudy and Sue celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together, they built the business alongside their six children and sons-in-law, and some still carry on the business today.
Rudy loved boating, fishing, working in his yard and teaching his kids to snow and water ski. He loved his family and sharing his faith with them. Rudy was considered a godly man. Many benefited from the protection of his prayers for his family, extended family, close friends and associates he nurtured throughout his lifetime. Rudy extended love and grace to all those around him and was admired by all for his devout faith, strength, generosity, humbleness, kindness and humor.
Rudy is survived by his wife, Sue; and their six children, Bill Lisac (Maria), Cecelia Ongley (Scott), Paul Lisac, Shannon Kelly (Dick), Maria Rivera-Castaneda and Tim Lisac; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rudy’s life truly reflected God’s love. As he would say to all, “God Bless.”
Rosary at 12 p.m., followed by funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 10956 S.E. 25th Ave., Milwaukie OR. Reception to follow at the church.
Interment will be held Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Mount Calvary Cemetery 333 S.W. Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR. Time to be determined.
