February 28, 1918 ~ March 6, 2013 (age 95)
In 1956, she married Leo Ziegler and they were married for 34 years until
his death in 1990.
Fifty years as a waitress at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar are a testament to
her loyalty and hard working nature. She started in 1936 shucking oysters
and retired as the head waitress in 1986. “Ruthie” was somewhat of the
historian for her Oyster Bar Family and the customers over the many years.
She remembered details and genuinely was interested in the people who she
came in contact with on a regular basis. A young employee quoted Ruth which captures her ethics, “Work is first and then of course, there is more work.”
Always energetic and a night owl all her life, she loved gardening, cooking
& baking, embroidery, coupon clipping and animals but especially cats.
While maintaining her beautiful yard, she enjoyed chatting with neighbors
who strolled her way as they admired her gardening skills and tenacity.
Aunt Ruth was always ready to help family and friends along with
volunteering at Loaves & Fishes for many years. She was ahead of her time
as a relentless recycler. Of course her 1972 green Plymouth station wagon
was easily recognized around town.
Until September, she remained fiercely independent and loved being in her
home. Ruth kept in touch with everyone via frequent phone conversations
and also writing notes. Again, she remembered all the details discussed.
The family appreciates all of those who helped to comfort Ruth and lift her
spirits with visits, cards, calls and gifts. We are especially grateful to her
caregivers the last months.
Nieces, Suzanne Haizlip of Bellevue and Diane Nelson of Damascus and
great-nieces and nephews have many fun & fond memories of Aunt Ruth
these many years.
