Sister Mae Cruikshank, SNJM, 94, died February 1, 2020. A Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 74 years, her funeral will be held at 11 a.m., March 4, 2020, in Chapel of the Holy Names, Lake Oswego.
Daughter of John and Taimi (Heino) Cruikshank, Mae grew up in Minnesota and moved to Portland with her family in her late teens. After graduating from St. Mary’s Academy, she entered the Holy Names Sisters receiving the religious name Sister Mary Lawrence.
Sister Mae enjoyed a long career in elementary education both as teacher and principal in Holy Names schools across the Northwest. Moving to parish ministry, she found her time in rural parishes in Washington State a special experience, treasuring opportunities to share faith and interact with groups, sharing their cultures and her own Finnish roots. After retiring, she lived in the Sisters’ Spokane retirement community before moving to Mary’s Woods, Lake Oswego.
Sister Mae is survived by nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community.
