Biography

Thomas S. Fujita, 80, passed away February 11, 2012. Tom was born in Milwaukie to Seijiro and Haru Fujita on April 13, 1931.

His family was evacuated in 1942 to the internment camp at Minidoka, Idaho, and they returned to Portland in 1945. Tom graduated from Lincoln High School and Reed College, and did graduate work at the University of Washington. For most of his career he was a research chemist in the Department of Biochemistry at Oregon Health Sciences University.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; sons, Paul (Carly), John (Anne), David (Catie) and Michael (Carrie); four grandchildren; brother, Donald; and sisters, Sumi Schloss, Fude Kagawa, Shiz Inaba and Mieko Ikeda.

A gathering to honor Tom will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at The Laurelhurst Club, 3721 S.E. Ankeny St., Portland.
