Victor Hahner Obituary

Victor Duke Hahner died September 1, 2017, following a brief illness, at his home, located at the Edgewood Point Assisted Living complex in Beaverton. He was 93 years old.
Vic was born in Lakeview, in 1925 to Victor G. and Mary D. Hahner. While he was a student at Lakeview High School, he devoted many hours helping in his family’s bakery. Vic enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was deployed in the South Pacific, where he served as a gunner’s mate on a Liberty ship.
After the war, Vic attended Oregon State University and the Oregon Institute of Technology. He met his wife, Patricia Wood, when they were students at Oregon State. Vic and Pat moved to Portland in 1949 and bought a house, which remained their sole residence until long after they both retired. Vic worked in the wholesale hardware industry throughout most of his career.

Vic was an accomplished fly-fisherman and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed making his own fly rods and tying flies. The Hahners were seasoned hikers and campers who often spent their vacations participating in wilderness outings. As members of the Trails Club of Oregon, they completed many hikes with this group, most notably the Pacific Crest Trail and a portion of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail. Vic never outgrew his love of travel. Along with his wife, he traveled all over the world, from New Zealand to Turkey, eventually joining an elder hostel group in their later years. Their last trip together was to see the Northern Lights from the North Pole. When Victor was not traveling, some of his favorite hobbies were playing cribbage, pinochle, or baking his mouth watering crescent and cinnamon rolls.
Vic is survived by his wife, Patricia Hahner of Beaverton; sister, Elizabeth H. Bailey of Central Point; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

May God comfort you during this time. Through his Word he assures us that he will replace death with life, sickness with perfect health and suffering with joy. He yearns to bring back many who have fallen asleep in death, to see them live again right here on earth under the best of conditions.
