Wayne Rostenbach Obituary

Wayne was born in Buffalo Iowa on November 1, 1924. He was the only child of Howard and Lida Rostenbach. He died on June 19th, in Sandy Oregon at Avamere residential memory care at the age of 87 from complications of Dementia.

Wayne grew up in Davenport, Iowa, spending his summers out on his Uncle’s farm in nearby Walcott.

Wayne was run over with cars twice at a young age and had complications that
lasted a lifetime. He never thought he would live past the age of 45 so he did well and his family and friends were blessed.

Due to his injuries he was not accepted into the service, so he worked at the Independent Baking company during WWII where he met his future wife Phyllis. They married on November 29th, 1947 at St. Mark’s church in Davenport.

Wayne and Phyllis moved to Portland Oregon in 1950. There they had his wife’s parents and extended family, and made it their home. They had been married almost 16 years and suffered a miscarriage when they had their one and only daughter Nancy in September of 1963.

The majority of Wayne’s working career was spent as a Radial Drill operator at Cascade Corporation in Portland, he retired in December of 1986 after 27 years.

Wayne enjoyed working in his yard, his passions included rock collecting, photography and listening to Traditional Country Music which he loved to share with friends and family. He also loved baseball, he and his cousin Albert went to Chicago at Wrigley field several times to see his favorite team, the Cubs, play.

He also worked up the courage to take his first flight in an airplane in his 70’s to travel with his Daughter and Son in Law, which he shared a home with in Gresham until earlier this year.

Wayne was well like by his supervisers and fellow workers as well. After retirement at the monthly retiree breakfasts Wayne was known as “Mr. French Toast” as he always had this dish until his health required a less sweetened diet. The guys, especially his buddies Marve and Jay, liked to tease Wayne about various things, His responce was usually the middle finger saluate, much to their delight. Wayne will be missed by all who knew him.

I am so sorry! I love this picture it looks like what your dad looked like a few years ago happy !!! Now he is with god and your mom and I bet he and your mom are smiling down on you. This is a really nice memorial!

Daddy I love you and miss you. Thank you for everything you taught me and for letting Mom stay home to take care of me. Thank you for instilling the love for music and photography in me and for giving me your sense of humor.
I love you!!

Your daughter, Nancy Lee

Our deepest sympathy in your loss of Wayne. He was a thoughtful and kind person. My Mother, Alice Kuhrt Kruse, always had wonderful things to say about him. Love your cousin, Judy Petersen

Please accept my sympathies. I read your father’s obituary in the Davenport, Iowa, newspaper. I am writing because my father’s name was also Wayne Rostenbach. He died about 2 years ago also at 87. His father’s family all came from Buffalo, Iowa. His father was Julius and his grandfather was Henry Rostenbach. We may be some kind of cousins. None of us were aware there was another Wayne. By the way he was also a Cubs fan. Feel free to respond sometime if you wish. I wonder if they have met! Sincerely, Barb
