“Bill” passed away peacefully March 19, 2019 at his home in Milwaukie. Bill was born July 9, 1925 in Portland, to William G. and Frances M. Keller. He attended Llewellyn Elementary School and Central Catholic High School. Bill graduated from the University of Portland in 1948 after taking a short absence from school to see Korea, courtesy of the United States Army. He graduated from Georgetown Law School and returned to Portland to join his father in his law practice. During his career, he was partners in the law practice with his father, his son John and his grandson David Keller.
He made many friends in the Chancellor Club of Portland, including Frances McGreevy, whom he married June 27, 1953. Bill and Fran raised seven children. In addition, Bill enjoyed tennis, played in multiple bridge groups and spent much time at their vacation home in Cannon Beach where he loved to go deep sea fishing. Over the years, Bill was involved in many activities including as a board member of Oregon Catholic Press, the St. Mary’s Home for Boys and on the Advisory Council for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. He was a pro tem judge in Clackamas County Circuit Court, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Milwaukie Elks and a knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. He was a lifelong member of St. Agatha Parish in Southeast Portland and was a founding member of Friends of St. Agatha. He was also a dedicated fan of the Portland Pilots.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances; and his older brother, Keith P. Keller. He is survived by sons, Joseph (Frances), John (Del), James (Katy), Paul (Kirsten), Robert (Cynthia); and daughters, Margaret Keller and Anne (Jeff) St. Mary. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2019, at St. Agatha Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at St. Agatha Catholic Church. Interment will be at Gethsemani Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Friends of St. Agatha.”
The family would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the family of caregivers who so lovingly cared for Bill these last four years in his home.
